Calls "Back right"- A defenseman call to let his teammate know he is providing help on the right. "Back left"- A defenseman call to let his teammate know he is providing help on the left. “Cutter” – A defenseman call to signify a man is cutting through the middle and should be covered. "I'm hot"- A defenseman call to let his teammates know he has the first slide. "I've got ball"- A defenseman call to let his teammates know he has the ball carrier. "I've got two"- A defenseman call to let his teammates know he is splitting two men, typically on the weak side away from the ball. "Keep your head on a swivel"- A defenseman call meaning to watch both the man you are defending and the ball. “Numbers” or “Number Up” – Call out the number of the man you are covering. “Pick” then “Stay”, “Switch” or “Jump”- A defenseman call which where the pick is being set, and what the plan of action will be. Release/Look Away – A slide man call to the on-ball defender, signifying he should look to the inside and find an open man. Goalie
Calls “Rebound”- Called by the goalie if he cannot control a shot, it signifies the players should clear the crease and look for the groundball. "Back left"- Called by the goalie to tell the defense the ball is behind the goal, on the left. "Back right"- Called by the goalie to tell the defense the ball is behind the goal, on the right. "Ball's at X"- Called by the goalie to tell the defense the ball is at X-behind. "Check up"- Called by the goalie to tell defensemen to pick up their man. Can also use "number up". "Top left"- Called by the goalie to tell the defense the ball is in front of the goal, on the left. "Top right"- Called by the goalie to tell the defense the ball is in front of the goal, on the right. "Number up"- Called by the goalie to tell defensemen to pick up their man. Calls "Ball"-A player scooping a loose ball shouts "ball" to tell his teammates he is taking the ground ball. "Man-ball"- When two players approach a ground ball with an opponent, one shouts "man" and blocks the opponent from scooping the ball while his teammate shouts "ball" and scoops the ball. “Release” – A call used to indicate a ball has been recovered and players should disengage from their men "Help"- A call to tell a teammate you are open to receive a pass. "Here's your help"-A call to tell a teammate you are open to receive a pass. “Sideline” – a call used to indicate a team is in its sideline clearing package
